Break a Leg! (Or not)

I had high hopes for 2024. Dreams of finally showing a horse that I bred, raised, and felt connected to. Getting back a judge’s card I forgot to renew a few years ago, that now requires a trip to Oklahoma City. Visions of running a 5k by the end of the year.

I started the wheels in motion for all of these things and I was picking up speed…until I picked up too much speed, slipped on a patch of ice and broke my ankle in two places. I had surgery to put it back together, and am non weight bearing for 60 days at least and won’t be driving for longer still. I couldn’t get to Oklahoma and there was no refund. I was supposed to judge a large show in Ohio and clearly can’t do that, either. Honestly, the list goes on.

I am quite aware that lots of folks have it far worse than I do, and I feel for them. My situation is temporary. The ankle will heal and eventually, I’ll be able to drive again. But that doesn’t/didn’t make it any less frustrating.

Rather than spend the time fixated on what I couldn’t do, I chose to focus on what could do. And one of those things was to finally get an online course out into the world. Perfectionist me has wanted to do this for years, but has been nervous about it not being absolutely perfect.

Fortunately, with age and experience comes recognition that nothing is ever perfect, and in some cases, the best way to learn is to just put it out there. So here I am, learning my heart out!

Showmanship 101:Strategies for Perfect Patterns is out in the world, for less than the cost of a trip through the drive through! The video is from a clinic 8 years ago, but the information hasn’t changed…only my hairdo has. It might be that some are still wondering how to get their horse to pivot, while others know what’s shared in the course and much more. But that’s ok. If this isn’t the one for you, I’m inspired to do other things, and hopefully you are, too.

Maybe you want to learn more about Showmanship, or course creation, or how to bungee jump or waterski or who knows what. My suggestion (from the couch) is that you go for it!

Just don’t feel as though you need to break your ankle to do it. I don’t recommend that part.
